I'm back!
Basically, my trip was broken down into two halves >.> But I'm keeping it short, because 1. I'm lazy and 2. there's not much to say. First, I stayed with/did stuff with Mom and Louise (her sister) and Karen (Louise's partner) in Ocean Beach. Mom took me shopping (woo!) one night, to a play (Dr. Zhivago ... the musical o.o;;;) the next night, and on Friday, we had dinner with Dad/Barbara/Andrea/Brock (who had just flown in). Then I went back with aforementioned party of four to a crappy Ramada hotel up in Oceanside (where Grandma lives).
Saturday, we went to Hazel (Grandma's sister) and Geoff's (her new husband) wedding reception. Apparently, they'd decided one day that it was time to tie the knot, since they've been living together for a couple years in their retirement home, and people had been talking crap about them living in sin and all that stuff. The reception was just this cake-eating get-together in their dining room, and there were prizes (not good prizes, but prizes) and after-dinner mints (I took like 3 containers of them o.o). Afterwards, Andrea, Brock, and I went to Torrey Pines. We saw dolphins, as well as this really big beetle.
Sunday was Grandma's 90th birthday party. I didn't know like half the people there, even though they're supposedly related to me. That side of the family doesn't seem to believe very strongly in reunions. There was this really annoying, arrogant guy who went to Yale too, and I think by the end, Brock and my sister were about ready to punch him in the face.
Gary, my uncle, is also in the midst of completing another crazy plot. The thing you have to know about Gary is that when he wants to do something, he does it. That's really an awesome trait, but the things he wants to do are, let's just say, unconventional. Examples: he once drank 5 gallons of water in a short period of time and had to go to the hospital because he'd flushed out all the good stuff as well as the bad; when his wife died, he wanted to be alone, so he took off one day for about a month without telling anyone where he was going, not even his mom or brother; he recently bought an avocado farm and lived there, illegally, without electricity, plumbing, etc.; he also recently married and then divorced his friend's (and worker on the avocado farm) sister so that she could become a U.S. citizen (she's Mexican). Stuff like that.
Anyway, so now apparently he just bought a 54-acre ranch in Mexico (1500 miles south of the border) for $15,000 and is going to raise goats and pigs with Chewy (his friend/worker on the avocado farm). He's also going to buy a separate plot of land and build a house on it for another $15,000 or something. And to get his Mexican citizenship, he's going to re-marry and then divorce (well, like a month later) Maria (Chewy's sister). o.o He also wants to take Grandma down there with him, which Barbara just about had a heart attack over.
I mean, I have to admire the man for his ability to go for what he wants. And somehow, things always end up working out for him, even though it never sounds like he thinks things through enough for him to succeed all the time. So that's good. But still... sometimes he does things that make me nervous. Well, I haven't really explained the situation very well to make it seem like an "eep" kind of thing, but let's just say that Gary doesn't have the experience to run a goat/pig/corn farm, nor can he afford to lose any money. He's also one of the few relatives Grandma has, so it's too bad that he's going to be so far away, too :/
Right, so now that I've rambled on and on...
SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW, OMG. Well, it doesn't really start start, but y'know. The checking in and such. I'm excited but also nervous >.> If I don't get into Gen Bio and/or Genetics, I keel someone.
